Creative Painting for a Kid’s Room
Finding inspiration for your child’s décor can be stressful and tiring. Creative decorating using paint for kids’ rooms doesn’t have to be hard at all however. In fact there are so many different ways you can use paint in a child’s room that you’re bound to find something you and they will love. Let’s take a look at some ways to decorate your child’s room using some different painting techniques and other painting tips.
If you’re okay with the color of the bedroom and don’t want to do anything totally extreme you should think about adding borders to the top or through the middle of the room or adding a mural to the wall. Adding murals and borders can make the wall color stand out as well as any added accessories you decide to go with. This is a fun touch for a room with bunk beds. There are a few different ways you can use borders and murals. Here are just a few:
Stencils and Stamping
You can buy stencils or use stamps to creative any border of your choice; shapes, flowers, cars, or any other object you can find at the store. Stenciling and stamping takes a little practice but can make a room look more colorful and give it some added character. You can also use this technique in painting a mural on the wall.
Stick and Peels
This may sound like cheating and maybe in a way it is, but it’s less messy and won’t damage your walls. If you don’t feel like painting them on, you can find stick and peels at craft stores and online.
Painting by Numbers
You and your child might have a great time using paint by number murals. They can really get involved with the creation of their own bedroom as they paint different colors.
If you’re tired of looking at just a boring plain wall then you might want to look into some of the many painting techniques out there to do the walls in. There are several different kinds of painting techniques you can use in a kid’s room. Here are a few different techniques to consider:
Sponging
Sponging is one of many paint techniques you can use in your child’s bedroom. Starting with a base coat you will paint the entire wall or whatever section you plan on painting. Then with a second color (generally one of the same hue, although contrasting colors can add a dramatic effect also) and a damp sponge begin sponging the wall. It’s really that simple.
Ragging
Yet another technique that looks great in any bedroom. Ragging provides a great finish for hiding rough or uneven surfaces. Using a glaze as the base coat you will paint the entire wall and then using a rolled up rag (like a shirt) you will roll it over the paint to create a "rag" look.
Combing
Combing looks great and adds a slightly sophisticated or casual look to the kids bedroom depending on what you use as coordinating colors and accessories. Combing creates strips on the wall that blend with all types of décor.
Magnetic and Chalkboard Paint
This type of paint comes in different colors but creates a cool effect on the walls. You can actually buy paint that creates a magnetic or a chalkboard wall which (I’m sure you already know) kids go crazy over.
There are hundreds of creative ideas you can use for decorating your kid’s room. Look through magazines, craft stores, and online to find exactly what you’re looking for. In fact, walls are not the only thing that can be painted. You can also try your hand at painting kids furniture to create the look that you want.
